Dream Small

If you’re like me, your days are made up of a bunch of activities that don’t seem to make much of a difference in this world. They are smaller things that you may have to do every day, over and over again.

We generally dislike these jobs and don’t see much point in them. They are monotonous and sometimes hard. Boring. Not exciting.

But I’m here to defy what we think about those jobs/chores/whatever and state the obvious because the obvious becomes so obvious it’s not obvious anymore! These small things matter! These are the things that change the world.

The Christian life is a walk. It’s one step at a time. We all usually change one degree at a time, not the whole three hundred and sixty degrees all at once.

A small stone isn’t very useful by itself, but if you have a bunch you can build a wall. The little things we do each day are all part of life, and they help us reach the big goals that we have!

So don’t complain when you have to do those small things. Don’t complain when you get tired of doing the same thing over and over. Don’t stop trying to do those little things that make a difference in someone’s life. Those are the things that matter.

Oh, and one more thing. You may feel that you can’t do much to change the world. And that may be true if it was just you. But here’s the thing…this world has millions of Christians, and it’s all of us serving Christ together that makes the difference.

We can’t do a whole lot on our own. But we can be that one drop that makes the cup overflow.

There are two songs for this week…I hope you like them! I found them recently and thought they were pretty awesome.

Mountains – Jason Gray

Dream Small – Josh Wilson

And I have another book to recommend! You’ve probably heard of the author, David Platt. I love his sermons and his writing (even though I’m only at the beginning of the first book I’ve read that he wrote…lol)!

Radical Together: Unleashing the People of God for the Purpose of God

  1. Yes! It is the small, everyday tasks that reap the greatest rewards in the Kingdom of Heaven.

    Matthew 10:42: “And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

    1. How many times haven’t we all given a little child a drink? Washed their hands or feet? And often we’re frustrated to have to do it again, and AGAIN. We shouldn’t think of it as below us…even those small things bring their own rewards.

      1. Great points Tori and Clayton. We often think that since we’re not taking the gospel to Third World Countries, or since we’re not recognized by the media for the millions of dollars we just donated to charity, that we can’t further the kingdom of God right where we are in our own homes. God put us where we are for a reason, so who are we to squander that in hopelessness? If we think we can’t advance God’s kingdom in the little things, the real issue here is pride (doesn’t that always seem to be the case?)–we think that we’re higher than God, and like Tori said, that the little tasks are below us. We put ourselves up on a pedestal, when really we’re dust compared to God. But thanks be to God, who daily puts breath in our mouths so that we can use our bodies to serve Him! We were created for God’s glory. So whether we’re battling Satan in a mission field or washing a child’s feet, we can glorify God.
        Because since it’s God’s goal, it’s ours too.

        1 Corinthians 10:31, “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the GLORY OF GOD.”

  2. Great post, Clayton! Gosh, there are so many small things in life we don’t want to do. However, we may not think they’re important, but it’s also a way we can be a servant. It can be a way that we show the love of Christ and reflect Christ in what we do. Yeah the job we have to do may be boring, but shouldn’t we represent the Lord in the little actions we’re meant to do? Sometimes it is a struggle to do so, but we should try to do our best to be Christlike. 🙂 — I really like that song by Josh Wilson! It’s so good!!

  3. These verses comes…

    Proverbs 30:
    25 The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
    26 The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
    27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
    28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.

    Good post.
